Gregory Peter Kalemkerian, M.D.

Dr. Gregory KalemkErian completed medical school and an internal medicine residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, followed by a clinical and research fellowship in medical oncology at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center in Baltimore. From 1993 to 1999, he was a physician-scientist in the Lung Cancer Program at Wayne State University's Karmanos Cancer Institute, in Detroit. Dr. KalemkErian joined the faculty at the University of Michigan as co-director of the Thoracic Oncology Program in 1999, and is currently coordinating the Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Clinic and the lung cancer research program with an emphasis on experimental therapeutics.

Douglas A Arenberg, M.D.

Dr. Douglas Arenberg is a specialist in pulmonary and critical care medicine. After graduating from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, he completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at the University of Michigan in 1996. Dr. Arenberg has a research interest in the control of angiogenesis in lung cancer. His clinical interests include pre-operative assessment and management of patients with known or suspected lung cancer, as well as the treatment of fibrotic or drug-induced lung diseases.

Richard Kevin Brown, M.D.

Dr. Richard Brown is board certified in the fields of nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology. He received his medical school education at the University of Michigan and his post-graduate training in radiology and nuclear medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Brown was in private practice prior to joining the faculty at the University of Michigan in June, 2004. He has been actively involved in web based education of cancer patients and their families since 1996. Dr. Brown's clinical interests are in oncologic imaging including PET scanning.

Andrew Ching-Hung Chang, M.D.

Dr. Andrew C. Chang received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore, and completed his general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He then completed his thoracic surgery residency and a one-year fellowship at the University of Michigan and joined the faculty in 2003. Dr. Chang is currently the director of the Photodynamic Therapy Program and the Lung Transplant Program. His interests include thoracic oncology, chest wall reconstruction, esophageal disease, lung transplantation and minimally invasive surgery.

Barry H Gross, M.D.

Dr. Barry Gross is a member of the Department of Radiology, Chest Division at the University of Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed an internal medicine internship and a radiology residency at the University of Cincinnati. Following a fellowship in body computed tomography and ultrasonography at the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Gross joined the faculty of the University of Michigan, becoming the chest division director in 1983. He was Chairman of Radiology at Henry Ford Hospital from 1989 to 1992, and returned to the University of Michigan as Professor of Radiology in 1992. Dr. Gross specializes in all aspects of thoracic imaging, with a longstanding interest in lung cancer staging. He is a co-investigator for the American College of Radiology Imaging Network's National Lung Screening Trial.

James Alan Hayman, M.D., M.B.A.

Dr. James Hayman received his medical and master of business administration degrees simultaneously from the University of Chicago in 1991. Following an internship in Evanston, Ill., he began his radiation oncology residency at the Joint Center for Radiation Therapy at Harvard Medical School. He joined the University of Michigan faculty immediately following his residency in 1996 and currently serves as the director of the Clinical Division of the Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Hayman's clinical interests include the management of lung, esophageal, breast and central nervous system malignancies. He is also one of the few radiation oncologists active in the emerging area of health services research.

Fengming Phoenix Kong, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Feng-Ming (Spring) Kong completed medical school and a doctoral program at Fudan University, in Shanghai, followed by a post-doctorate fellowship in translational scientific research at Duke University Medical Center, in Durham, N.C. She then received clinical training in radiation oncology at Washington University in St. Louis and was certified by the American Board of Radiology in radiation oncology. In 2003, Dr. Kong joined the faculty of the University of Michigan, where she currently coordinates lung research studies in the Department of Radiation Oncology with an emphasis on functional image-guided, individualized high-dose radiation therapy. Dr. Kong's research interests include designing and conducting clinical trials to improve treatment results for lung cancer patients and testing molecular biomarkers in patients' blood for radiation induced lung toxicity. She is currently participating in a clinical trial design and data analysis program through the U-M School of Public Health. Dr. Kong's clinical interests include radiation therapy and the care of treatment-related toxicities in lung cancer patients as well as patients with other thoracic malignancies.

Mark B Orringer, M.D.

Dr. Mark Orringer received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and completed a general surgery and thoracic surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 1973, where he currently serves as the section head of general thoracic surgery. Dr. Orringer specializes in lung cancer surgery, esophageal cancer surgery and the diagnosis and treatment of chest wall tumors. His research interests include improving methods of esophageal resection and replacement and combined therapies for esophageal cancer and lung cancer. In 1999, Dr. Orringer was named one of the "318 Top Cancer Specialists for Women" by Good Housekeeping Magazine.

Leslie Eisenbud Quint, M.D.

Dr. Leslie Quint is a member of the Department of Radiology, Chest Division, at the University of Michigan. She graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in biology and received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Quint completed her radiology residency and a fellowship in cross-sectional imaging at the University of Michigan and then joined the faculty in 1987. Her clinical and research interests include cross-sectional imaging of thoracic malignancies, including lung and esophageal cancer. Dr. Quint also studies imaging of other thoracic disorders including aortic diseases and emphysema.

Collette Hodges

Collette Hodges is the Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Clinic nurse practitioner working directly with Dr. Gregory Kalemkerian. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Madonna University in Livonia and her master's degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. Ms. Hodges has a diverse background in intensive care and emergency nursing, as well as nursing management. Most recently, prior to joining the staff at the University of Michigan in 1999, she provided palliative care for terminally ill patients at Harper Hospital in Detroit.

Lori Flint is a clinical care coordinator in thoracic surgery. She received her diploma in nursing from Michigan State University and has worked in the area of thoracic surgery since 1990. Her patients and colleagues elected Ms. Flint as the University of Michigan Health System employee of the month in November 1996. In 2001, she was elected the UMHS Nurse of the Year.
Kevin Robert Flaherty, M.D., M.S.

Dr. Kevin Flaherty received his medical degree and training in internal medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. He then moved on to the University of Michigan and completed training in pulmonary and critical care medicine, and also completed a master's degree in biostatistics and clinical study design through the U-M School of Public Health. Dr. Flaherty's clinical interests include participating in the pre-operative assessment and diagnosis of patients with suspected lung cancer. His research interests include designing and running clinical trials for patients with lung diseases, as well as testing surrogate markers for disease diagnosis and prognosis.

Dr. Jules Lin received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Michigan. He then completed his thoracic surgery residency at the University of Washington. Dr. Lin also completed a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Michigan as well as a Surgical Research Fellowship where he specialized in Thoracic Oncology at the University of Michigan. His interests include the treatment of lung and esophageal cancer, minimally invasive approaches, trachoebronchial resection and reconstruction, sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis and lung transplantation.

Dr. Mahidhara attended Harvard University as an undergraduate and received his M.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He then completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh. Following this, Dr. Mahidhara completed his Thoracic Surgery residency at the University of California in Los Angeles, California. His office will be in the Taubman Center. He will have a clinic both in the Taubman Center and the Cancer Center.

Dr. Claire W. Michael completed her undergraduate premedical and medical education at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. She then completed a one-year research fellow­ship at Henry Ford Neurosurgery Institute, four years of post-graduate training in anatomic and clinical pathology at William Beaumont Hospital, and a one-year fellowship in cytopathology at Wayne State University. Dr. Michael joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 1995 and currently serves as the director of cytopathology. Her research interests include breast and pulmonary pathology, and body fluids.

Reddy, M.D. earned his medical degree atNorthwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, and completed his general surgery residency at Washington University Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. His surgical residency training was interrupted by two years of research as a Clinical Fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.. He completed his Thoracic Surgery residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington this year. Dr. Reddy¿s clinical interests include all aspects of general thoracic surgery including thoracic oncology, minimally invasive techniques, pectus repair and therapy for end-stage lung disease including transplantation and lung volume reduction surgery. His academic interests include thoracic oncogenesis.
