Bruce Compton Richardson, M.D., Ph.D.

Faculty Appointment: Professor, Department of Internal Medicine
Additional Title: Chief of Rheumatology, Veteran's Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System
Specialty: Rheumatology
Clinical Interests: Lupus erythematosus
Research Interests: Dr. Richardson’s laboratory characterizes epigenetic mechanisms regulating chromatin structure and gene expression in human T cells, and how changes in T cell chromatin structure, caused by environmental exposures, contribute to autoimmunity in lupus and aging. Current applications of these concepts include analyzing how genetic/epigenetic interactions cause lupus flares in men and women, and developing diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for lupus based on epigenetic changes that cause lupus flares. Current efforts extend these concepts to new ways to diagnosis, monitor and treat human lupus.
