  • Specialty: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
    Bone Marrow Transplantation
Clinical Interests: Bone marrow transplantation and graft-versus-host disease.
Research Interests: Modulation of cytokines, graft-versus-host disease, graft-versus-leukemia. Dr. Ferrara is the principal investigator on a Program Project Grant to evaluate graft vs. host disease diagnosis and management.

  • Hutchinson, Raymond J M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Clinical Interests: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia and Hodgkin's disease.
Research Interests: Dr. Hutchinson is the principal investigator overseeing the research activities of the Children's Oncology Group at the University of Michigan; this research group supports clinical trials for the treatment of many pediatric malignancies. He also has clinical research interests in the use of anti-tumor vaccines to treat patients with resistant sarcoma and in the use of radiolabelled MIBG to treat patients with neuroblastoma. Several clinical protocols are available in these areas. Dr. Hutchinson is a participant in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study, an organization funded by the National Institutes of Health to investigate long-term outcomes of children and adolescents surviving their cancers. He also collaborates in the therapeutic advances for childhood Leukemia Consortium, a research group evaluating new therapies for acute leukemia.

  • Hutchinson, Sally Kinzer N.P., M.S.N.

  • Kitchen, Brenda Joyce M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology

  • Kitko, Carrie Lynn M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Clinical Interests: My clinical interests include the prevention and treatment of graft versus host disease following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation.
Research Interests: My research project utilizes the bone marrow transplant program's large database and patient plasma samples to measure inflammatory cytokines at various time points post-transplantation. The goal of this project is to identify a marker early post-transplantation that can predict for post-transplant complications including acute graft versus host disease and non-relapse mortality. In addition, I am interested in developing better screening tests and treatments for chronic graft versus host disease.

  • Leonard, Marcia A. B.S.N., CPNP

  • Specialty: Pediatrics
Clinical Interests: Leukemia in infants; long term followup of childhood cancer survivors; fertility preservation for cancer patients

  • Levine, John Eric M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
    Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant
Clinical Interests: Bone marrow/stem cell transplantation.
Research Interests: Dr. Levine's research focuses on the safety and effectiveness of cellular immunotherapy. He is attempting to correlate clinical events like remission or graft-versus-host disease with the timing and tempo of changes in plasma levels of inflammatory cytokines. The goal is to develop timed interventions that block complications while permitting anti-leukemia effects. Dr. Levine is the elected Scientific Vice Chair of the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Consortium.

  • Mody, Rajen  M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Clinical Interests: Neuroblastoma, pediatric leukemia and long-term follow-up of childhood cancer survivors.
Research Interests: Dr. Rajen Mody's research focuses on novel approaches for the treatment of neuroblastoma. He also serves as a Co-Prinicpal Investigator in the Children's Oncology Group (COG) grant.

  • Moyer, Judith

  • Pipe, Steven Wesley M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
Clinical Interests: Dr. Pipe's primary clinical interest is inherited and acquired bleeding and thrombotic disorders, including hemophilia, vol Willebrand disease, rare coagulation factor deficiencies and thrombophilias. He also manages complicated hemangiomas and vascular anomalies in infants and toddlers.
Research Interests: Dr. Pipe's research has focused on several aspects of the structure and function of coagulation factor VIII in an effort to generate a form of recombinant factor VIII with either increased specific activity or longer half-life. He has also investigated the factor VIII secretion pathway, characterizing some of the molecular interactions of factor VIII with protein shcaperones within the endoplasmic reticulum. Insights in this area have lead to interventions that improve the efficiency of factor VIII secretion and may have application to recombinant factor VIII manufacturing and hemophilia gene therapy applications.
