Pediatric Sleep Medicine
Research Interests: Dr. Hassan's research interests focus on the utilization of spirometry as a tool in the diagnosis and management of asthma; how spirometry affects treatment in the subspecialty setting; and the underutilization of asthma in the primary care setting. Other interests include: the association between asthma, obesity, and obstructive sleep apnea; and the relationship between obesity and insufficient sleep in children.

Research Interests: Effects of obesity on modifying inflammatory responses. Current research investigates how obesity alters macrophage function in the lung as well as in adipose tissue and how these alterations contribute to the pathogenesis of obesity associated diseases such as diabetes and asthma.

Clinical Interests: Arthrogryposis, rehabilitation of upper extremity problems (eg amputation, nerve injuries, brachial plexopathy), pediatric and adolescent rehabilitation, rehabilitation of ventilator assisted children and adolescents, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, myelodysplasia traumatic brain injuries, skeletal dysplasias, and international pediatric rehabilition.
Research Interests: Brachial plexus palsy in children, outcomes in international pediatric rehabilitation, Ventilator-dependent children and adolescents, cerebral palsy (especially upper-extremity problems), spinal cord injury, quality of life of children with disabilities.

Research Interests: Our lab is interested in understanding the interactions of microbial pathogens with airway epithelium (Burkholderia cenocepacia, H. influenzae and Rhinovirus) which activates signaling pathways in epithelial cells leading to chemokine production. We are also interested in the invasion and trafficking of B. cenocepacia in epithelial cells.
