  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
Clinical Interests: Asthma, pneumonia, cyctic fibrosis, breathing disorders from newborns to adolescents, bronchoscopy, and lung function testing.

  • Bentley, J. Kelley Ph.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
    Molecular Physiology and Pharmacology
Research Interests: Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology, Signal Transduction Integration

  • Filbrun, Amy Goldstein M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
Clinical Interests: Apnea and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, asthma, cystic fibrosis, and pulmonary function testing.
Research Interests: Infant and pre-school lung function testing.

  • Hassan, Fauziya  M.B.B.S., M.S.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
    Pediatric Sleep Medicine
Research Interests: Dr. Hassan's research interests focus on the utilization of spirometry as a tool in the diagnosis and management of asthma; how spirometry affects treatment in the subspecialty setting; and the underutilization of asthma in the primary care setting. Other interests include: the association between asthma, obesity, and obstructive sleep apnea; and the relationship between obesity and insufficient sleep in children.

  • Hershenson, Marc Barry M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
Clinical Interests: asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis
Research Interests: Biochemical mechanisms underlying virus-induced exacerbations of asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease; Biochemical mechanisms underlying airway smooth muscle cell hypertrophy in asthma.

  • Lewis, Toby Crowe M.D., M.P.H.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
Clinical Interests: Asthma, cystic fibrosis, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Research Interests: Epidemiology and public health of childhood respiratory disease, particularly the interplay of biologic, environmental, and social factors in the development and exacerbation of asthma.

  • Lumeng, Carey Nien-Kai M.D., Ph.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
Clinical Interests: Asthma, Bronchoscopy, Cystic Fibrosis
Research Interests: Effects of obesity on modifying inflammatory responses. Current research investigates how obesity alters macrophage function in the lung as well as in adipose tissue and how these alterations contribute to the pathogenesis of obesity associated diseases such as diabetes and asthma.

  • Nasr, Samya Z M.D.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
Clinical Interests: Cystic fibrosis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, lung diseases, and bronchial asthma.
Research Interests: Cystic fibrosis clinical research.

  • Nelson, Virginia S M.D., M.P.H.

  • Specialty: Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
    Pediatric rehabilitation
Clinical Interests: Arthrogryposis, rehabilitation of upper extremity problems (eg amputation, nerve injuries, brachial plexopathy), pediatric and adolescent rehabilitation, rehabilitation of ventilator assisted children and adolescents, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, myelodysplasia traumatic brain injuries, skeletal dysplasias, and international pediatric rehabilition.
Research Interests: Brachial plexus palsy in children, outcomes in international pediatric rehabilitation, Ventilator-dependent children and adolescents, cerebral palsy (especially upper-extremity problems), spinal cord injury, quality of life of children with disabilities.

  • Ramirez, Ixsy Abigail M.D., M.P.H.

  • Specialty: Pediatric Pulmonology
Clinical Interests: Clinical interests include asthma, cystic fibrosis, airway disorders including, but not limited to, tracheomalacia and bronchomalacia as well as the use of flexible bronchoscopy to evaluate and diagnose airway disorders. The involvement in a multidisciplinary team to diagnose and manage aerodigestive disorders.

  • Ramsey, Ann Marie  R.N., M.S.N., A.N.P.

  • Specialty: Pediatrics
Care of invasively and noninvasively ventilated children and adolescents

  • Sajjan, Umadevi S. M.Sc., Ph.D.

  • Specialty: Pulmonary Diseases
Research Interests: Our lab is interested in understanding the interactions of microbial pathogens with airway epithelium (Burkholderia cenocepacia, H. influenzae and Rhinovirus) which activates signaling pathways in epithelial cells leading to chemokine production. We are also interested in the invasion and trafficking of B. cenocepacia in epithelial cells.
