Orthopaedic Surgery - Spine Surgery Program

Director: Gregory Paul Graziano, M.D.

The University of Michigan Spine Surgery Program provides comprehensive, cutting edge treatment options to patients with neck and back disorders. Our surgeons specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with scoliosis or spinal deformities, spinal cord or nerve compression, tumors of the spine, and neck or back pain. Faculty surgeons in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery work closely with colleagues in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Department of Neurosurgery to ensure that each patient receives optimal surgical and non-surgical therapy for their spine condition.

Our experts offer a broad spectrum of surgical options including minimally invasive spine surgery, kyphoplasty, complex spinal revision and reconstructive surgery, and artificial disk replacement. As of February of 2007, enrollment has begun for a clinical trial pioneering cervical disk replacement for the treatment of cervical degenerative disc disease with nerve or spinal cord compression. Further information can be obtained through the Engage UMHS clinical trial website.
