The 10-bed Thoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit is an integral part of our patient care facilities. We provide 24-hour in-unit physician coverage for adults with thoracic surgical problems. On occasion, we admit critically ill patients to the unit before surgery, but our major emphasis is postoperative care.
We staff our unit with experienced nurses who are specially trained in all aspects of the care of acutely ill cardiothoracic patients, including cardiac or respiratory assist device patients, heart or heart-lung transplant patients, and lung and esophageal surgical patients.
