The University of Michigan Health System performs more than 500 autopsies every year. These cases represent the wide spectrum of medical cases encountered at the University of Michigan Hospitals, as well as forensic cases from across Washtenaw County.
Information for Medical Residents/Interns:
First-year Pathology residents (interns) spend approximately four months on the Autopsy service. We perform the majority of autopsies directly at University Hospital and a smaller number (about 100) at the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System. U-M Medical School faculty supervise all autopsies. We instruct residents in proper autopsy dissection techniques as well as the interpretation of histological sections.
