Pediatric Heart Transplant Program
Directors:
Dennis C Crowley, M.D.
Richard George Ohye, M.D.
Heart transplantation is standard therapy for patients with end-stage cardiomyopathy or with congenital heart disease that cannot be treated through surgery.
The University of Michigan Pediatric Heart Transplant Program offers coordinated and comprehensive evaluation, treatment and follow-up for pediatric heart transplant patients. Our program began in 1984 with our first transplant. We have performed more than 200 heart transplants. We are accredited by the United Network for Organ Sharing, a nonprofit organization that coordinates U.S. transplant activities. Physicians refer patients from within the University of Michigan Health System and from surrounding areas in Michigan, as well as Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
Patients sent for transplant evaluation will be examined by a team of experts with experience in the evaluation and management of pre- and post-transplant recipients. We also provide care for patients with advanced heart failure who may not yet meet criteria for listing but may benefit from additional heart failure treatment. We offer the most advanced therapies for medical heart failure management as well as interventional therapies including bi-ventricular pacing and mechanical circulatory support.
