Transfusion Apheresis (Therapeutic Plasma Exchange) Services include the withdrawal of whole blood from a patient, separation of the whole blood into its components using an automated cell separator, discarding or replacing the components that are harmful to the patient, and subsequently reinfusing the desirable components into the patient's blood stream. Services include:
- Apheresis to collect peripheral blood progenitor cells for bone marrow transplantation
- Plasma exchange to treat hyperviscosity syndromes and to remove harmful antibodies, immune complexes, etc.
- Removal of whole blood (phlebotomy) to treat polycythemia vera, idiopathic hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis and certain other diseases.
- Therapeutic erythrocytopheresis (red blood cell exchange) to remove red cells in patients experiencing sickle cell crises
- Therapeutic leukapheresis to reduce white blood cells in hyperleukocytic leukemia
- Therapeutic plateletpheresis to reduce platelets in thrombocythemic patients.
