Diabetes Education

Diabetes affects an estimated 18.2 million Americans, and the number rises each year. People with diabetes must learn self-management skills and make lifestyle changes to effectively manage diabetes. Self-management education is an integral component to successful diabetes care. It promotes blood glucose control, prevents acute and long-term complications and enables people to make informed decisions on how to maintain or improve health and quality of life through their own initiative.

Whether you are new to diabetes, have never had any diabetes education or need a refresher in order to improve your care, the Diabetes Education Program at the University of Michigan provides a complete range of self-management classes and training programs specifically related to your diabetes. Our staff of registered nurses and registered dietitians are certified diabetes educators.
