Brain Tumor Program
The Brain Tumor Program in the Department of Neurosurgery acts in concert with specialists in the Departments of Neurology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, and Pathology to provide state-of-the-art therapies to patients with brain tumors. Patients treated in the program are offered a wide range of treatment options involving both traditional and innovative experimental therapies. The treatment progress of each patient is regularly reviewed by the entire multidisciplinary team to insure that the optimal, most advanced therapies are delivered in a timely and appropriate manner. Chemotherapy is administered through the Department of Neurology, Division of Neuro-Oncology.
Surgical approaches to brain tumors include stereotactic biopsy of intracranial lesions, ultrasound-guided and other image-guided surgical resection, as well as conformal external beam and stereotactic radiosurgery. Neurosurgeons at the University of Michigan have contributed pioneering methods to the safe resection of brain tumors using image-guidance techniques and have risen to national prominence in the field of brain tumor surgery.
