Hydrocephalus Program
The Adult Hydrocephalus Program at the University of Michigan is dedicated to the identification and treatment of patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus as well as hydrocephalus due to other causes such as tumors, hemorrhage, and infection. For patients with a suspected diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus, additional inpatient testing may be performed to insure that the diagnosis is confirmed prior to surgical intervention. Adults with hydrocephalus are typically treated with a shunt procedure. However, where appropriate, surgeons in the program may offer alternative treatments such as endoscopic third ventriculostomy or open surgery.
