Spine Surgery Program

The University of Michigan Spine Surgery Program provides state-of-the-art, comprehensive, patient-centered services to individuals whose spinal disorders affect their health and productivity and whose disorders require surgical intervention. Patients referred to the spine surgery program may suffer from pain, scoliosis, spinal tumors, or traumatic injury. Surgeons in the Department of Neurosurgery work closely with colleagues in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, insuring that each patient receives optimal surgical or medical therapy for their spine problem.

We offer a broad spectrum of advanced therapeutic options, performed by experts in the field. Treatment options may range from outpatient kyphoplasty, minimally invasive spinal surgery, and artificial spinal disk surgery, to open complex spinal surgery with instrumentation. Each therapy is custom-tailored to suit individual patient needs and desires. With a broad array of treatment options, the program takes pride in its ability to explain clearly the risks and benefits of each option to the patient prior to making a treatment decision.
