Psychosocial Aspects of Variations in Physical Growth and Development
Variations in physical growth and development in both stature (short or tall) and timing of puberty (early, late, or absent) are sometimes associated with significant psychosocial stress for children and adolescents. Concerns may exist about the short and long-term effects these physical differences may have on the current or future psychosocial adaptation of the child.
This service provides an assessment of the stressors commonly related to variations in physical growth and development as well as an evaluation of the child or adolescent's global psychosocial adaptation (behavioral and emotional) in the following domains: involvement in activities, social functioning, school performance, as well as behavioral and emotional functioning.
In addition to the more common variations in physical growth and development, this service also provides psychoeducational and comprehensive psychological services for children born with a disorder of sexual development (congenital conditions with atypical development of chromosomal, gonadal, or anatomic sex) and their families.
