Pediatric Airway

Director: Charles F Koopmann Jr., M.D., M.H.S.A., M.S., B.S.

Pediatric Otolaryngology's Tracheotomy Airway service is part of a multidisciplinary approach to treating tracheotomized children and their families. The service evaluates and treats communication development, and educates children and families about their treatment options. The service is available for both inpatients and outpatients. We evaluate communicative and/or swallowing abilities and make recommendations so that the child's development is not interrupted or delayed.

When necessary, we design treatment programs to establish or re-establish communication through alternative communication systems. We also consult with professionals (such as the child's teachers) to ensure a smooth transition to the child's community.
