The Cough Clinic takes a multidisciplinary approach to evaluating and managing patients with chronic cough. We staff our Clinic with two pulmonary physicians and a gastroenterologist, and obtain consultations from physicians in the Allergy and Otolaryngology departments.
During the first visit, one of our Cough Clinic physicians sees the patient, and we perform routine tests, such as chest x-ray and pulmonary function. If further, more complicated pulmonary function tests (such as methachloline challenge) are necessary, we will most likely perform these on the same day. If these tests are negative, or if it is likely that the patient has gastroesophageal reflux, we will obtain a consultation and conduct 24-hour gastroesophageal pH monitoring.
