Spine Program - Occupational Therapy

Our Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offers occupational therapy services at University Hospital, C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, MedRehab at Briarwood, MedRehab at Canton, the Spine Program, and the Spine Program at Brighton. Occupational Therapy also provides hand therapy services at University Hospital, MedRehab at Briarwood, MedRehab at Canton, Domino Farms and South Main Orthopedics. The Division of Occupational Therapy offers the services of registered occupational therapists, certified occupational therapy assistants, certified therapeutic recreational specialists and support staff.

Occupational Therapy provides services to children and adults whose ability to cope with the tasks of daily living is threatened or impaired by developmental deficits, physical injury, illness, psychological or social disability or the aging process. The Spine Program is an adult treatment site. Limited pediatric services are available. Comprehensive pediatric services are available at MR-Milestones and C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.

Treatment may include assessment and training in the activities of daily living; hand function skills; prosthetics; environmental alterations; positioning techniques; visual, perceptual and cognitive skills; orthotics training; use of adaptive equipment; and involvement in leisure and recreational activities.
