Last year, the department saw 44,000 outpatient clinic visits and performed 4,700 operations on adults and children. More than 40 percent of U-M's serious trauma patients require orthopaedic care. Each year, 30 orthopaedic surgery residents are in training at U-M and affiliated sites. Our five-year residency program was created in the 1930s and ranks as one of the top 30 in the nation.
