Female Urology

The Department has doctors with a primary interest in urologic disorders affecting women including urinary incontinence and voiding dysfunction, pelvic prolapse, urinary tract infection, and other bladder disorders. The Department is part of a newly established Continence Clinic run jointly Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan. This special comprehensive multidisciplinary clinic was established to treat female patients with complicated urinary incontinence. Multiple treatment modalities are made available to patients which allow for appropriate individualized care.

Stress Urinary Incontinence

The treatment of complicated incontinence in Urology starts with a thorough fluorodynamic evaluation and may include medical therapy or various surgical procedures, from outpatient collagen injection to sophisticated reconstructive operations.

The urology faculty interested in female urology deal with pelvic organ and vaginal prolapse conditions which often are associated with stress incontinence symptoms. These conditions may require gynecologic assistance which is readily available in the multidisciplinary clinic setting and in the operating room.
