Incontinence
Patients from all over the world travel to the University of Michigan Urology Department to be treated for incontinence and other bladder disorders. The Center is recognized internationally for evaluating and treating patients with urologic disorders from the simple to the complex.
Urinary incontinence is defined as the involuntary loss of urine. It is a very common problem, especially in females following childbirth and in elderly individuals. Urinary incontinence is often subdivided into the following categories:
- Continuous incontinence
- Stress incontinence
- Urgency incontinence
- Overflow incontinence
- Post Prostatectomy incontinence
Our fully-equipped urodynamics laboratory helps our doctors to identify lower urinary tract problems which may be causing bladder problems. We also provide our female patients with a comprehensive continence clinic run jointly with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to treat complex incontinence.
We provide in-depth evaluation, precise diagnosis and careful planning of reconstructive urologic surgery including:
- Bladder enlargement/replacement
- Urethral repair/reconstruction
