About 400,000 people in the United States have spinal cord injuries. Each year, roughly 10,000 people sustain new spinal cord injuries. Most of these people are injured in auto crashes, sports accidents, falls, and industrial mishaps. About 60 percent of these people are 30 years old or younger, and most of them are men.
