Joseph O. Nnodim, M.B.B.S., Ph.D.

Faculty Appointment: Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Internal Medicine
Specialty: Geriatric Medicine
Clinical Interests: Fall-risk assessment, mobility enhancement and fall prevention in older adults
Research Interests: Human gait properties. Our research is aimed at understanding the basis of the relationship between falls and variabilities in such gait measures as step width, stride and swing time. In our experiments, gait is studied under conditions which amplify the differences between safe and unsafe walking patterns. The results are expected to enable the early identification of persons at increased risk of fall on account of their gait properties. Remedial interventions may then be administered to such persons when the most benefit can be derived, which is before they actually begin to experience falls.
