Clinical Interests: Dr. Bess has particular interests in treatment-refractory mood disorder patients, especially as it pertains to: electroconvulsive therapy (ECT); deep brain stimulation (DBS); tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs); and evidence-based psychological, social/family, and complimentary/alternative treatments that help patients feel better faster.
Research Interests: Besides research interest in the above areas, Dr. Bess is involved in research of metabolic monitoring with atypical antipsychotic use, catatonia, and delirium. In addition, Dr. Bess also does academic work related to the practice of inpatient psychiatry and the hospitalist model as it pertains to psychiatry.
