Associate Professor,
Department of Internal Medicine
|
| Specialty: |
Rheumatology
|
| Clinical Interests: |
Knee arthritis, muscle disorders, Sjogren's syndrome, spondyloarthropathies, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
I maintain an interest in knee arthritis and spondyloarthropathies from many years in seeing patients with these disorders. I am acquainted with patients with Sjogren's Syndrome and muscle disorders from performing diagnostic procedures on suspected patients (salivary gland biopsy and needle muscle biopsy). I use musculoskeletal ultrasound to guide diagnostic and therapeutic arthrocenteses (joint taps) in a dedicated injection clinic which includes injection of hyaluronates for knee osteoarthritis. |
| Research Interests: |
Musculoskeletal ultrasound, polymyositis, psoriatic arthritis.
I assist other investigators in genetic studies of psoriatic arthritis as well as therapeutic trials in psoriatic arthritis and polymyositis. I examine the impact of various methods of teaching arthrocentesis, including virtual reality simulations. I examine the role of musculoskeletal ultrasound in clinical decision making regarding therapeutic musculoskeletal injections. |
