Mott named one of best children's hospitals by Parents magazine

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan Health System has been ranked as one of the best in the country by Parents magazine. Mott received the highest ranking among children’s hospitals in the state.

“We are honored by this national recognition, which reflects the strength of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in patient care, education and research,” says Patricia A. Warner, MPH, associate hospital director for Children's and Women's Services at the U-M Health System. “Our faculty and staff provide the highest quality of care to patients and families from Michigan and across the country, and are making remarkable advancements in the diagnosis and treatment of children’s medical conditions,”.

On the list of 30 top hospitals, Mott ranked 18th. The magazine determined the rankings through an analysis of extensive surveys sent to children’s hospitals. More than 75 hospitals submitted answers to the 250-question survey, including survival rates, number of complex procedures performed, research studies, staff qualifications and safeguards to prevent medical errors.

The recognition comes at a time when the hospital is expanding in a way that will further enhance patient care. A new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital is under construction on the U-M Health System campus. The 1.1 million-square-foot children’s and women’s facility will house 13 pediatric operating rooms, four pediatric surgical procedure rooms, four Caesarean section suites, and 348 private inpatient beds, including 50 single room maternity care beds upon completion. The building is scheduled to open in fall 2012.

In the Parents magazine listing, Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit was ranked #25. The full listing is available at www.parents.com/baby/care/pediatricians-medicine/best-childrens-hospitals/?page=1
