Brandon and Shani Inge to be honored for work with children’s hospital
Detroit Tiger and wife will be honored with a day of activities, games and recognition by hospital leaders, families and children for their work and dedication to hospital
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital will show their appreciation for Detroit Tiger Third Baseman Brandon Inge and his wife, Shani, with a day of ball park fun on Wednesday, September 2 at the hospital.
Pediatric patients, their families and Mott staffers will proclaim September 2 as Brandon and Shani Inge Day. Plans for a kids’ parade in the hospital's courtyard at 11:30 a.m. will be followed by words of appreciation from Doug Strong, CEO for the University of Michigan Health System and Patricia Warner, Associate Hospital Director and Chief Operating Officer for Mott Children's Hospital and Women's Hospital.
Weather permitting, kids will have the chance to play games and make crafts in the courtyard while Brandon and Shani visit with them and their families. A special visit from the Detroit Tigers' mascot Paws is also planned.
Inge and wife Shani have played important roles at Mott Hospital for several years by visiting patients and families several times a year, helping the hospital with fund raising and personally donating to the Champions for Children campaign for building a new Mott Children’s Hospital.
The Inges also gave $100,000 to name the playroom for children receiving cancer infusions at the new hospital. Instead of placing their name on the playroom, they requested a contest be opened to patients and families, which resulted in the "Dugout” name.
In addition, the Inges established and support the Family Hope Fund at Mott, which provides help to patients and families who need help meeting the costs of food, lodging and transportation to and from the hospital during their child's treatment.

The new facility will enhance the inpatient and outpatient services within the current Mott Hospital, the world-renowned Michigan Congenital Heart Center, the Birth Center and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
