UMHS earns two top nods for being a great workplace
Both Metropolitan Detroit’s “101 Best and Brightest Companies To Work For” and Detroit Free Press “Top Workplaces” showcase UMHS as employer
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Employees at the University of Michigan Health System have put UMHS at the top of two different lists of the best places to work in Southeast Michigan – a strong positive signal to other prospective staff about working at UMHS.
UMHS has recently been named a top employer by two different
metropolitan Detroit-area surveys. Recently, UMHS was named one of metro Detroit’s “
101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For”. On Sunday, it was named ninth overall among large companies -- ranking first among large health care organizations -- in the Detroit Free Press list of “
Top Workplaces 2009”.
The 101 metro Detroit companies on the first list will be honored by the
Michigan Business and Professional Association at a symposium and awards luncheon on Oct. 29. MBPA will honor all 101 winning companies and present 11 elite awards at the annual event.
The selection of the winning companies is based on an independent analysis of employee surveys that ask about companies’ communication, community initiatives, compensation and benefits, diversity and multiculturalism, employee education and development, employee engagement and commitment, recognition and retention, small business, recruitment and selection, and work-life balance.
For the Detroit Free Press’ second annual “Top Workplaces”, UMHS was evaluated on the basis of its employees’ survey responses to 23 different questions, tallied by Workplace Dynamics, Inc. More than 32,000 employees at 173 companies took part.
As one of the country's top institutions in clinical care, biomedical research and medical and health education, UMHS is a premiere health care system focused on creating the future of medicine. With over 18,500 employees, the Health System includes the
U-M Hospitals and Health Centers, the
University of Michigan Medical School and its
Faculty Group Practice, the clinical activities of the
University of Michigan School of Nursing and the Michigan Health Corp. - the legal entity that allows the Health System to enter into partnerships, affiliations, joint ventures and other business activities.
UMHS is a part of the University of Michigan, one of the nation’s foremost public universities and home to an array of health sciences schools that complement UMHS. The Health System is a comprised of a diverse group of individuals and operates with the belief that each person brings a unique set of attributes, beliefs and experiences to the workplace that enhances its ability to serve a diverse patient population, think creatively and work together in new and effective ways.
