Event on Main to raise money for children's and women's hospitals
Enjoy dinner and live entertainment on the streets of Ann Arbor to benefit children and women’s health
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The public is invited to enjoy entertainment and dining on the streets of Ann Arbor the night of Thursday, June 17 to benefit children and women’s health.
The Event on Main is a three-year endeavor, now is in its first year, to raise $1 million over three years to support the construction of the new University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital. The effort is led by Mott pediatric nurse Melina Roberts and her husband Dave Roberts, wealth advisor for Telemus Capital, and Jan and Dave Brandon, co-chairs of the Michigan Difference Campaign.
Free entertainment will begin at 5 p.m. between William and Liberty streets to celebrate and support C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital. The public will be able to stroll down Main Street while listening to the area Jazz group, Joe Lulloff Quintet with Sunny Wilkinson, and watch the creation of street art on the blacktop. Area restaurants will donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the hospital. Participating restaurants include Real Seafood Company, Melange, and Conor O’Neill’s.
A private event, which is sold out, will be held simultaneously at Gratzi, Palio, Real Seafood, La Dolce Vita and The Chop House. It is being hosted by Mainstreet Ventures.
Main street will be closed between William and Liberty 4 p.m. to midnight. Street closings and alternate routes will be posted on the city’s website at http://www.a2gov.org/Alerts/Pages/EventRoadClosuresandDetours.aspx.

U-M C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital is nationally ranked in eight pediatric specialties in the U.S. News & World Report's 2010 edition of “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals.” A new 1.1 million square feet, $754 million state of the art facility for children and women will provide a new home for cutting-edge specialty services for newborns, children and women such as the pediatric liver transplant program, Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Program, Pediatric and Adolescent Home Ventilator Program, Craniofacial Anomalies Program, high-risk pregnancy services and specialty gynecological services. The new hospital will enhance the inpatient and outpatient services, the world-renowned Michigan Congenital Heart Center, the Birth Center and the Holden Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2011.
