U-M study finds voice box can be preserved, even with the largest cancers (6/25/2009)

Some patients with large tumors on their larynx can preserve their speech by opting for chemotherapy and radiation over surgery to remove the voice box. A new study from the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center found that a single round of chemotherapy could identify those patients most likely to benefit from this approach.

Fight or flight? Barriers hinder paramedics from using best CPR practices (6/30/2009)

CPR can be performed as well in the field as it can be in an emergency room. But a new University of Michigan study finds that paramedics are more likely to provide CPR while flying down the road in the back of an ambulance. Getting a pulse prior to transport increases the chance of survival for cardiac arrest patients, but local laws, insurance reimbursement and public misconceptions hinder best resuscitation practices.
