CONSULT REQUEST GUIDELINES
Hepatitis B - HBsAg positive
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
1) Blood Survey, Complete Blood Count (CBC); Hepatic Function Panel; Prothrombin Time (PT); Hepatitis B e Antigen (HBeAg)/anti-HBe; Hepatitis B Virus DNA by PCR, Quantitative
2) Anti-HCV, Fe/TIBC
3) Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and RUQUS if clinical suspicion of cirrhosis or patient > 40 yr
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit
1) Decrease or abstain from alcohol
2) Hepatitis A vaccination
3) Advise on precautions to prevent transmission
4) Screen spouse and family members for HBsAg and anti-HBs, vaccinate susceptible family members
