| Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines |
Antiviral treatment within 72 hrs of rash onset. In addition consider referral to U of M Back & Pain Center for sympathetic blockade at the onset of the rash if painful.
Consider medication trials such as Gabapentin, Lidocaine patch 5%, Opioid analgesics, Tramadol, or TCA's

| Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit |
Consider a referral to U of M Back & Pain Center to optimize medical management and consider interventional options which include local anesthetic and epidural steroid injections, pulsed RF of the dorsal root ganglion, cryoablation, and spinal cord stimulation.
