CONSULT REQUEST GUIDELINES
HIV/AIDS Treatment Program (HATP)
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
Referral to HIV/AIDS Treatment Program (HATP) is appropriate for patients with:
Positive HIV ELISA and Positive HIV Western Blot tests.
Positive HIV ELISA and Indeterminate HIV Western Blot.
Documented history of HIV infection and need for continuation of care.
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit
A documented positive test is necessary for referral.
HIV infection should be confirmed with the presence of a positive HIV Western Blot test since false positive HIV ELISA tests can occur.
Don't give patients positive results via telephone.
Contact HIV clinic Social Work prior to giving patient results of a positive test.
Patient Education/Information (includes preps)
1-2 weeks. Same day visits with Social Work can often be arranged to facilitate linkage to care
