Rheumatology Injection Clinic
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines Examples of target patient include:
  • call-in patients who previously responded to injection and now want another
  • call-in patients with localized flare in setting of established disease
  • urgent referrals from primary care clinics or Emergency Department (diagnostic arthrocentesis and/or therapeutic injection)
  • difficult joints/ e.g., hips, elbows, ankles, shoulders, carpal tunnels
  • patients with knee OA for hyaluronate injections (use of ultrasound assures accurate intraarticular placement)
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit  
Patient Education/Information (includes preps) No preps necessary.
When scheduling appointments information needed: Referring doctors name and phone #, and Injection site.
Ultrasound is used to guide most injections
Appointment Timeframe 1-4 weeks
