Seizures/Epilepsy - New onset/worsening

| Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines |
First seizure should be evaluated in ED, assess worsening seizures for new seizure types, compliance and changes in sleep/hormones/stress
|
| Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit |
Obtain witnessed description of event, check anticonvulsant levels, CBC and SGOT/SGPT. Consider epilepsy-protocol brain MRI and EEG in patients with new seizures.(ED)

Avoid sleep deprivation, counsel about compliance, no driving 6 months after a seizure |

- New seizure: to ED for evaluation
- Change in seizure type or frequency: call for next available epilepsy appointment
