Trigeminal Neuralgia
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines Assess for typical worsening with speech, eating, wind on face, and normal trigeminal motor and sensory function.
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit Consider a trial of gabapentin, trileptal, or carbamazepine at low doses.
Patient Education/Information (includes preps)
1) Education about taking medications prophylactically
2) Facial nerve weakness or paralysis (Bell's palsy)
