Spinal Cord Compression/Myelopathy
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
1)Obtain MRI to confirm diagnosis of compressive myelopathy
2)Surgical referral for compressive myelopathy (cervical stenosis, cervical or thoracic disk hernation, spinal deformity compressing spinal cord, etc.)
3)Neurology referral for non-compressive myelopathy (transverse myelitis, MS, etc)
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit 1) MRI
2) CT/Myelogram if patient unable to obtain MRI
Patient Education/Information (includes preps)  
Appointment Timeframe 1) Urgent for progressive weakness
2) Emergent for paralysis/paralegia
