Bell's Palsy/Facial Paralysis

Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines

1)	Start patient on Prednisone (1mg/kg up to 60 mg per day) for one week, followed by rapid taper over another week. Also, begin anti-viral, such as Valcyclovir, 1 gm three times a day for 10 days.
2)	Ophthalmic lubricant, artificial tears, moisture chamber at night.

Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit

1)	Audiogram to be scheduled and performed at UMHS (outside testing not accepted).
2)	If complete paralysis within 3-10 days: Electroneuronography (ENoG) to be scheduled and performed at UMHS (outside testing not accepted)
