Cerumen Impaction
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines PCP to attempt removal prior to referring to specialist.
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit Use peroxide drops for 2-3 days to soften wax, then vinegar - water irrigation by patient daily for one week

Instructions:
Mix one ounce of warm tap water with one ounce of household white vinegar. It is best if the mixture is close to body temperature to prevent dizziness. Fill the syringe with the vinegar-water mixture and gently irrigate your ear. Use up the whole mixture each time - it usually fills the syringe 5-6 times. Do this over the sink or before your shower.

Audiogram to be scheduled and performed at UMHS (outside testing not accepted).
