Midline Neck Mass/Suspected Thyroglossal Duct Cyst
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
1)
Consider trial of oral antibiotics if inflammatory neck mass suspected.
2)
Immediate referral if symptoms of airway distress or suspicion of abscess formation.
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit
1)
Thyroid ultrasound should be performed if mass associated with thyroid gland.
2)
Thyroid function tests and a nuclear thyroid scan are optional.
