Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
1)3-6 week course of medical therapy including broad-spectrum oral antibiotic and nasal steroid spray.
2)Early referral for patients with exacerbation of RAD or in asthmatics whose asthma is progressively more difficult to manage related to sinusitis or complications of sinusitis.
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit
1)For patients who are suspected of having complications (progressive swelling around the eye over weeks or months, patients suspected of having intracranial complications, etc) should have dedicated axial and coronal CTs 3mm cuts WITH CONTRAST. UM radiology preferred. If outside imaging obtained, patients MUST hand carry actual or copies of films (or CDs or DVDs) to appointment.
2)Provide documentation of prior treatment and response to therapy.
3)Consider sweat test for cystic fibrosis.
