Speech, Language, and Resonance Problems

Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
1)Concerns regarding speech sound production or articulation, ability to understand speech, including following directions, vocabulary development, and ability to use speech to name items, express needs and engage in age-appropriate conversation: Consider referral to local intermediate school district or Early On for initial eval. Provide copies to consultant.
2)Resonance (nasality heard in speech, whether hyponasal or hypernasal (velopharyngeal dysfunction): obtain UM speech language pathology evaluation with nasometry prior to appointment.
3)Behavioral, play and social skills as they relate to language development: Speech language pathology evaluation. Consider Behavioral Pediatrics evaluation.
