ADHD - Children
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines The Pediatric Behavioral & Mental Health (CBH) accepts referrals for evaluation and initial management of suspected, uncomplicated ADHD in children (4-12 years) and young adolescents (13-16 years).

Appointment Timeframe Referrals for evaluation through CBH are appropriate for uncomplicated ADHD. Consider referral to Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at UMHS if:
  • child is less than 4 years
  • concern about co-morbid mental health disorder
  • multiple medications have already been tried
  • ongoing counseling or other support is needed
Time to appointment in CBH is 1-3 months. Referral from the primary care doctor is required.
How to Get Results to Consultant Parents/caretakers should bring previous evaluations, report cards, and rating scales (sent by the Specialty clinic at the time the appointment is scheduled).
