| Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines |
The Pediatric Psychology Service accepts referrals (newborn through 21 years) for evaluation and treatment of behavioral and emotional aspects of disease and illness, the promotion of health and development, and evaluation of developmental disorders.
Pediatric psychologists on this service specialize in addressing the following types of concerns: child and family adjustment to illness, adherence to medical routines, transition from pediatric to adult centered health care, pain management, relaxation skills and stress management related to illness, sleep problems, chronic constipation and soiling, behaviorally-based feeding problems, psychological aspects of deviations in typical growth and development (ie, short/tall stature; delayed/early puberty) and developmental assessment of young children.
Pediatric Psychology does NOT accept referrals for individuals without a medical condition or problem of adjustment to physical growth and development.

| Appointment Timeframe |
Time to Appointment is clinic-specific (See multispecialty clinic listings for more specific information). General pediatric psychology referrals are typically scheduled within 4-6 weeks.
All referrals to Pediatric Psychology are triaged by the faculty to ensure that each patient referred will be seen by the most appropriate service to meet the needs of the patient. If a referral patient is not best served by Pediatric Psychology, a phone call will be made to notify the referring physician.
