Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
The Pediatric Psychology Service accepts referrals (newborn through 21 years) for evaluation and treatment of behavioral and emotional aspects of disease and illness, the promotion of health and development, and evaluation of developmental disorders.
Pediatric psychologists on this service specialize in addressing the following types of concerns:
Child and family adjustment to illness
Adherence to medical regimens
Adjustment/coping with medical procedures or treatments (e.g., injections/blood draws, CPAP, self-catheterization)
Relaxation skills and stress management related to illness
Behaviorally-based feeding problems
Psychological aspects of deviations in typical growth and development (short/tall stature; delayed/early puberty)
Developmental assessment of young children.
Transition from pediatric to adult centered health care, pain management
