Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
Acute versus chronic
If new, consider peripheral neuropathy, peroneal mononeuropathy, new CVA, HIV risk, alcoholism
If chronic, consider previous history of CVA, trauma to leg, family history of neuromuscular disease
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit
EMG
If peripheral neuropathy a consideration, obtain fasting glucose, Hgb A1C, CBC, TSH, T 4, LFTs; HIV testing if risk indicates
