Primary Hyperparathyroidism

| Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines |
Referral is indicated if:
Patient has elevated serum calcium and PTH levels, or inappropriate elevation of PTH with high normal calcium.
|
| Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit |
Simultaneous PTH and Calcium determination if not already done.
Sestamibi (parathyroid) scan
Vitamin D levels
24 hour urine calcium
DEXA Bone Density Scan (optional)
Parathyroid ultrasound will be done by Endocrine Surgery at time of clinic visit

| Patient Education/Information (includes preps) |
OK to continue moderate calcium intake (e.g., 1250 mg of Calcium carbonate with or without Vitamin D). |
