Carotid Artery Occlusive Disease

Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
If Carotid Artery Disease is suspected,
  • Consider medication adjustments for blood pressure control or cholesterol level
  • Smoking cessation
  • Antiplatelet medication (ASA or Plavix)
  • Statin agent
  • If symptomatic - schedule consult ASAP
    Or, refer to Vascular Surgery
    Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit
    1)Ultrasound DCD scan (DVU)
    2)An evaluation by a referring physician is required prior to scheduling visit.
    3)Specific reason for referral
    Patient Education/Information (includes preps) Carotid Disease
    Atherosclerosis
    Carotid Endarterectomy
