Thrombocytopenia

| Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines |
Platelet count < 100,000/ul
Check CBC, PT, APTT, D-dimer, hepatitis C levels, liver function test.
Review medications and discontinue any medication that can cause thrombocytopenia for at least one month, prior to making a decision regarding referral.

| Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit |
If isolated thrombocytopenia (with or without coagulation protein abnormalities), schedule consult with Hematology faculty who see benign disorders.
If thrombocytopenia associated with anemia and/or leukopenia, schedule consult and bone marrow examination with any Team 1 hematologist
