Microscopic Hematuria

Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines

1)	Urinalysis and urine culture with sensitivities to confirm absence of infection
2)	Verification of hematuria by two or more microscopic (not dipstick) urinalyses showing greater than 3 rbc's per high power field (hpf)
3)	Must be triaged

Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit

1)	Consider verification of microscopic hematuria using catheterized urine specimen(s) in women
2)	Urine cytology to screen for malignancy
3)	Consider IVP or CT urogram
