| Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines |
Complete H/P to rule out serious causes (tumor, infection, fracture)
Minimal rest with return to activity
Determine if symptoms of radiculopathy are present

| Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit |
Short trial of NSAID's, opioid's, muscle relaxants
Imaging Studies -X-ray with AP, lateral and oblique views, CT, MRI (gold standard)
Neck pain greater than three months we recommend an MRI
Relevant past medical history
Referral to U of M Back & Pain Center
