| Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines |
Referral to the General Infectious Diseases Clinic is appropriate for patients with diagnoses such as:
- Aspergillosis
- Bacteremia
- Endocarditis
- C. diff colitis
- Cellulitis
- CMV disease
- Fever of Unknown Origin
- Soft tissue infections
- Parasitic infestations and travel related infections
- Bone and Joint infections
- Post-operative infections
- Pneumonias
- Infections in immune compromised hosts including solid organ and bone marrow transplant
- Positive PPD skin test
- Infection with Tuberculosis
- Infected pressure ulcers/osteomyelitis
- Infection with endemic fungi such as Histoplasmosis
Diagnoses not managed in the General Infectious Diseases Clinic include:
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Chronic Lyme Disease
- Hepatitis C Virus infection (refer to Hepatology Clinic)
- Hepatitis B Virus infection (refer to Hepatology Clinic)
- Patients who are only in need of screening tests (screening for TB, viral hepatitis, or HIV)
- Patients who need vaccines for travel abroad (refer to Travel Clinic)
- Patients with HIV infection should be referred to the HIV Clinic (not the General Infectious Diseases clinic)

| Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit |
All patients referred to the Infectious Diseases Clinic must have a complete set of records and radiological studies (such as X-rays, CT scans, etc) hand carried with them to their appointment in order for an appropriate evaluation to be completed.
